Libraries Are Dear Friends In Every Neighborhood For Those Impacted By Mental Health Issues

LIBRARIES ARE IMPORTANT ON MANY LEVELS

A neighborhood library is an essential resource for those without the Internet.  For the individual experiencing mental health issues, or someone needing to make an important decision about a family member, the library provides access to tons of information.

First, the individual with access to a library can find a mental health facility that is convenient for therapy sessions with a psychiatrist.  Second, having this information allows their physician to make a referral for the patient at that particular mental health facility for therapy sessions.  Third, conversely, the patient can learn how to travel to a mental health facility that the physician refers them to through access to a library’s Internet service.  Also, for the individual needing to find a facility for a loved one (i.e., hospitalization), they can compile a list and have it ready for the decision-making process (i.e., health insurance, availability.) Lastly, the process can remove any additional burden they would have experienced without the necessary access to the Internet via the library.
